Shaun King, I love you and your passion but your proposed boycott in San Francisco is an embarrassing revelation.
What you are proposing is not well thought out. A boycott in San Francisco has zero chance of working if you don’t know what is going on in San Francisco.
As an activist of over thirty years in the City and a resident since 1960, you should consider the perspective of a person such as myself.
The San Francisco Chronicle has given you credit for alerting many of the hiring of former SF police chief Greg Suhr by the Golden State Warriors, which resulted two hours later, the announcement — because of social media backlash — the Warriors reversed their intentions on having Greg Suhr handle security for the team’s groundbreaking ceremony.
But you have called for a boycott of “JPMORGAN Chase.” Chase Bank is a subsidiary of JPMORGAN and the name of the new Warriors arena, which you helped get the word out on Greg Suhr, is to be, “Chase Center.”
At the ceremony was this Chase executive, Thasunda Ducket, CEO of Chase Consumer Banking, who I think was a part of the ceremony only because of the color of her skin. Nevertheless, Chase Center should be the target.
A much stronger statement could be made if this one project was stopped, not boycotted. Can it be stopped? Yes. Will it? If you listen to my approach, most definitely.
I have three Medium pieces published on this subject. And I challenge you to find someone here who knows more on the matter in question.
